HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Letcher Central splits tournament games

Letcher Central erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to beat Pike Central, 11-6, in the seventh-annual Wizard of Ozz Tournament played at Cougar Field on Thursday night.
The Lady Cougars, now 6-2, pounded out 12 hits. MacKenzie Nantz, Autumn Wampler and Harley Driskell all singled and drove in two runs each.
Sydney Lowe belted a solo home run for the Lady Hawks, now 2-8. Emalie Tackett had two hits, including a double, and scored four runs. Zoey Ratliff also had two hits and batted in one run.

Paintsville grabbed an early lead on Letcher Central and the Lady Tigers earned a 7-2 win in the seventh-annual Wizard of Ozz Tournament played at Cougar Field on Thursday night.
Winning pitcher Laney Bledsoe led the Lady Tigers (3-4) at the plate with three hits, including a home run and double while scoring three times and driving in three runs. Chessa Collins and Taylor Hannah added RBI hits.
Losing pitcher Makennah Johnson and Raygan Anderson each drove in one run as the Lady Cougars fell to 5-2. Abigail and Gracie McDougal both singled and scored.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Tigers outlast Golden Eagles; Cougars rough up Bobcats

Paintsville beat Johnson Central for the second time this week, escaping with a 13-11 win at Eagle Field on Thursday night.
The Tigers, now 8-2, had shutout Johnson Central on Tuesday, 10-0.
Frederick James and Ashton Adams drove in a pair of runs each in the win. Harris Phelps had three hits, including a triple, walked, and scored twice. Gunner Collins doubled, walked, scored a pair of runs and batted in one.
Jonah Porter was the winning pitcher.
Connor Lemaster paced the Golden Eagles (3-6) with a home run, double and three RBIs while scoring once. Brock Butcher had two hits and knocked in four runs. Matt Crum had two hits, one a double, walked twice and scored four times.
Cameron Kelsey took the loss.

Jonah Little belted a home run, singled, and drove in a pair of runs while scoring twice. Cunniff singled, scored twice and added three RBIs. C.J. Akers singled in a pair of runs and scored two while Sam Little had two hits, including a triple, and scored four runs.
Andrew Kidd was the losing pitcher as the Bobcats dropped to 0-4. Central improved to 4-3.
