Collins pleads guilty in federal drug case

Casey CollinsPIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man has entered a guilty plea in his federal drug case. Casey Collins, 39, of Frozen Creek, appeared in court Monday, where he pleaded guilty to possession of meth and fentanyl with the intent to distribute. In his plea agreement, he admitted to having 228 grams of meth and nearly 42 grams of fentanyl in his possession when sheriff’s deputies raided a Floyd County home where he was staying last April. Arrangements announced for Belfry student

BELFRY, Ky. — Funeral arrangements have been announced for a Belfry Middle School student-athlete who died last week. Noah Jase Cross, 14, died Friday at the UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, following a battle with meningitis. Visitation will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Belfry. Funeral services will be held in the Belfry High School gymnasium on Thursday, beginning at 11 a.m. R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry is in charge of arrangments. There will be no school Thursday at Belfry Middle, Belfry Elementary, Belfry High or Bevins Elementary.

Man being arrested for vandalism charged with assaulting officer

William PreeceINEZ, Ky. — A Martin County man who was already on his way to jail, after being arrested for an act of vandalism early Saturday morning, found himself in even more trouble, for allegedly assaulting a state trooper. William Preece, 57, of Inez, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and public intoxication, after Kentucky State Police investigated an incident at the Brookshire Inn on Black Log Road. Community mourns death of Belfry Middle School student-athlete

BELFRY, Ky. — Pond Creek Nation is in mourning today, following news that Belfry Middle School student-athlete Noah Cross has died. The youth had been hospitalized at the University of Kentucky in a battle with meningitis. His body was returned to Pike County today, receiving an escort from Kentucky State Police. Noah Cross was 14 years old.

Former state trooper charged with harassing teens over golf dispute

John Gabbard, shown in a screengrab from a video of the incident.PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A retired state trooper is scheduled to appear in court next month, after being accused of harassing and menacing four teenagers at Stonecrest golf course, following a dispute over golf etiquette. John Gabbard, 55, of Prestonsburg, was served with a summons to answer four counts of harassment and four counts of menacing next month. According to the complaint, Gabbard allegedly subjected the teens to “an offensively coarse utterance, gesture or display” and “abusive language” at Stonecrest back on March 22.
